Summer of Soul

1–2 minutes

Please don’t get me wrong. I loved this movie. I was spellbound by the music and the history I did not know. The juxtaposition into the moon mission was absolutely fascinating.

The influence of religion is thought provoking. As a kid I was transfixed by the moon landing and had no idea of the social rest happening around the country. There in lies the paradox as scientific endeavor is not bad And in a sense religion has it’s own strength and limitations.

When ones rights are trampled who cares if man lands on the moon.

And it is the music that matters. The opening scene with Stevie Wonder on drums is certainly worth the price of admission. It was certainly nice to hear the songs we heard on AM radio as kids, and now giving context the songs have that much more meaning. I think I’ll go back and give a listen to the Fifth Dimension , Sly and the Temptations.

And a special shout out to the Hollywood theater. It was so nice to be in the old neighborhood watching a film I truly enjoy.
