Many years ago when i lost my wallet on the way home from a running race in York, Pa. Actually I never realized it was lost until I received a phone call later that day. A gentleman found my wallet, I believe he was fishing, on the banks of the Susquehanna River. I know reading this, the timing may seem suspect but unfortunately it is not. It took us awhile to how this could have happened. One of my two little sisters, sitting in their car seats, had thrown the wallet out the window of the car and for the life of of me I have no idea how the wallet made it
- – 1) Out The Window
- 2) Over the Roadside barrier
- 3) To the bank of the river
- 4.) Picked Up by the fisherman
- 5) And then again how the man on the riverbank fishing found me in Pennsylvania. I had a Virginia drivers license.
- 6) I don’t remember exactly how it worked as there was no Google or Smart Phones.
- Lesson learned – NONE.
My little sisters are now have children the same age as they were when they toss the billfold out the window. Last might we were walking to a restaurant before a soccer game and we had a certain urgency.
There in the middle of the road sat a wallet. Upon inspection of the wallet, We found where the person lived. Already running late we ventured there anyways. The owner of the wallet was not at home and we were not 100 percent sure he still lived there. We decided to take the wallet with us.
We did eventually find the owner of the wallet. There was a tracking device on the wallet and we tangentially came close to running into each other at the The Portland Timbers soccer match . It was a perfect metaphor to how close the home team came to scoring the game winning goal. Oh so close, but we never connected until the following day.
Lesson Learned – Do the right thing. What goes around comes around.
