What We Are Afraid To Talk aBout

1–2 minutes

What are three objects you couldn’t live without?

My first instinct with his question is, we cannot live without certain people in our lives or even beloved pets.

I’m going to a tough time right now as my 12-year-old border Collie recently passed away.

It was sudden, and we have to go on. We have to be free to talk about it. To be so up close and personal with death is personal.

But please don’t be afraid to talk about it, it happens to all of us.

Society and death is strange. And maybe it should be. We all know people going through a loss. You’re not gonna get it right but feel free to talk about it. It’s OK.

  • Culture and Taboos:There’s a cultural tendency to avoid the topic of death, with some cultures even having strict taboos surrounding it.
  • Traumatizing Loved Ones:We may worry that discussing death will upset or cause distress to our loved ones, or that we are not equipped to cope with the emotions that arise from these conversations.
  • Fear of Saying the Wrong Thing:Some avoid these discussions because they are afraid of saying the “wrong” thing or inadvertently causing further pain or distress to someone.
