What is good about having a pet?

Pets are amazing, animals are amazing and I discussed the obvious here. http://beaglesarebad.blog/2025/11/10/heavy-petting/. Dogs and cats obviously get all the attention.

Boris

Many years ago I had a bird named Boris. He was amazing. When I came home from work, he would greet me. He got to the point where he say words and greet us.

I would get home and read the Washington Post at the kitchen table. Boris would actually turn the pages of the news paper when asked.

Fred

When I was a kid, we had a beagle named Fred, Fred was a girl. When my parents gave their little speech about the birds and the bees they used Fred. I had no idea what they were talking about.

Lucy

Many years ago on Wednesday nights I would go running with my son as my daughter played volleyball. We would run through this park and I would see this beagle I found adorable. She would run up to me and greet me like I was the anointed one.

Week after week, I would return to the park and the dog would greet me. A few weeks later, the owners asked me if I would be interested in adopting Lucy. They were watching Lucy for their mother who was now bed ridden. Lucy and I had a long and great relationship.
