The ending of Little Red Riding Hood depends on whether you read the original tragic version or the famous happy version: the Charles Perrault version ends with the wolf eating the girl and no rescue, while the Brothers Grimm version features a huntsman who saves them.

I think an alternative, ending would be for the wolf to chow down on the hunter, teaching the lesson that we no longer need to hunt to provide food for ourselves.
