Der Zug

Describe a random encounter with a stranger that stuck out positively to you.

I love random encounters almost to the point they don’t seem so random.

My son and me were taking the train to Berlin on a snowy Friday morning. We claimed a spot in a little compartment on the train. We had plenty of room to stretch and do as we please.

Abfahrt

As we were departing, a woman hurried in our booth and asked if she could join us. She said she work to do. This was all in German but I was able to answer in German. I told her that would be fine.

I sat on the train sketching in pen and ink as the woman sat doing her work. After about an hour she asked me if I was a professional artist. Which I am not. But still that was flattering

Gespräch

Which started one of many conversations. We learned she was a teacher in the Berlin Schools. She learned our son was an elite skater. She said she was doing a segment on skating for her students and asked if Max would like to contribute.

Which he naturally did. She bought three beers and we sipped them together watching the snow start again in earnest.
