How do you make time for self-care?
We live our lives in one big cycle. When we were young, we had plenty of time for self-care, but we don’t even think about it. but we were young and we were indestructible.
I’m not advocating for it, but one of the best ways to have time for self-care is to not have children. We make lots of sacrifices as parents and probably when we need to both self-care. It’s not easy to get to.
Our daughter in Germany is really struggling with this. She is a single mother and all her spare time is with her daughter.
She’s lucky she’s in Germany where they get ample vacation and sick time. Still it’s difficult. I can’t even imagine what single mothers in the United States have to go through.
A critical first step is defining what is self-care. For some it could be yoga, other than bike ride, and others just sitting down and reading a book.
It’s not as rewarding, but it worked for me is to include self-care into the daily grind. It could be as simple of riding your bike to work or going for a walk or run while your kids are playing soccer.
One has to be creative. And it does piss me off, but it is this way. American businesses are not worker friendly for the most part.
I was fortunate I had the resources. I was able to go for a run on my lunch break and tag team with my partner(s). Easier said than done, but you have to make it a priority.

Sometimes in retrospect, I feel guilty for making it such a priority. It is a necessary evil in this capitalistic system we live within.
Without being snarky man, I suggest moving to Canada.
