• Morning reflection

    Morning creeps over the Cascades
    and my own world
    reflects back.

    A bird sings
    a gentle rain
    you may start your day.
  • Randomness

The one certainty in life is how absolutely random it can be.

And many seek to minimize the beauty in the random. What many would define as control.

And some appreciate the Beauty of the capricious, the oddball or those who relish being different

  • Lost

    Pants

My wife bought me an expensive pair of running pants and I promptly lost them. They were missing for six weeks and today I had an epiphany and knew somewhat where they were lost. I found them under a bike helmet I probably would have had to search for when the weather got warm again.

This is something I do, I lose things and for the most part eventually find them. It is not a strength, rather a character flaw.

Other things I have lost in similar fashion.

Our Cat Astrid – One day my wife and I were walking down to the pub and Astrid followed us for a few blocks. We figured, it was only three blocks and she would find her way home. Well she did not find her way home. After a week we started getting worried, after two weeks we were gravely concerned, three weeks we considered her adopted and after six weeks we considered her gone. On the forty third day she walked in the house like it was another day. looking for her food bowl.

Wedding Rings – Here is a simple math equation for you. Suntan lotion + Wedding Ring + Ocean is an equation that never worked for me. After applying lotion, we went snorkeling off the Coast. I remember the ring slipping off and twisting slowly to the ocean floor. A similar fate happened in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. This was simply a snarling angry wave. This bizarre event occurred in the Indian Ocean as well. While swimming off of an Island in the Maldives I once again lost a wedding ring to the sunscreen ocean equation. I now wear a wedding ring that is a tattoo.

Wallets -There was a time many years ago when i lost my wallet on the way home from a running race in York, Pa. Actually I never realized it was lost until I received a phone call later that day. A gentleman found my wallet, I believe he was fishing, on the banks of the Susquehanna River. I know reading this, the timing may seem suspect but unfortunately it is not. It took us awhile to conclude one of two little sisters, sitting in their car seats, had thrown the wallet out the window of the car and for the life of of me I have no idea how the wallet made it – 1) Out The Window 2) Over the Roadside barrier 3) To the bank of the river 4.) Picked Up by the fisherman
And then again how the man on the riverbank fishing found me in Pennsylvania. I had a Virginia drivers license. Lesson learned – NONE

Car – My son and I went to a Blazers basketball game and we drove our Jeep. We had that car for a month or two. Or at least that is how long I remember it running. The kids called it the fun car. We went to the game and it was a colossal Waterloo where the winning team won by 50 points. I do not remember who won. We got out of the game, it was my first time at the Rose Garden, and for the life of me I could not find the fun car. We walked blocks and blocks and could not find the car. Max said to me, “Dad lets just take the Train home.” We did eventually find the car. The next morning at the breakfast table Max’s Mother asked, Boys How was the game last night? Max said it was great, Dad drank a lot of beer and lost the car.
