    Do you believe in fate/destiny?

    Berlin alley

A few months ago, I posted this photo of myself in a back alley in Berlin.

Two days later, a friend of mine, that I knew from Portland Oregon, commented that she knows that spot

She said she lives four blocks from there.

She moved to Germany with her husband, they’re no longer married then she moved to Berlin and now lives three blocks from my son

    Is it destiny or fate?

No it’s a bunch of wild coincidences.

    Fiction

If you ever read fiction and thought to yourself, that could never happen. But it does that’s what life’s all about. It is a bunch of random coincidences starting with a butterfly effect.

One little change in the universe has a ripple effect and just rolls through society. You don’t even know what’s happening.

    Happenstance

My son was conceived as a result of me missing a flight to Dallas.

Did American Airlines cancel that flight for a reason?

If he was conceived on a different day, would he be a different person?

Why would anybody fly American Airlines?

How did I get into the computer industry anyways to get on that flight?

How did I meet my wife at the time?

I met her in Reading Pennsylvania and she just moved there from Japan and I just moved there from Virginia.

She is German so there’s a common thread for all you conspiracy theorists.

We kind of met in a cornfield.

    Was that destiny?

No. More likely a butterfly landed on a bush in a back alley in Japan somewhere because it set the whole thing in motion.

    Stating The Obvious

Describe a phase in life that was difficult to say goodbye to.

In retrospect there have always been periods to say good by to. Generally these transitions happen with little pomp and circumstance.

We live our lives preparing for the upcoming phases in our lives. We are saying good by all the time. Until we are not.

For example, my constant companion Cooper passed away suddenly a few months back. I mentally prepared for the possibility at a later time, but this happened so suddenly. The transition to life without Cooper is difficult yet many great memories remain.

    Luna

Our Jack Russel still looks for him briefly when we head out for a walk. I wonder often how the transition was for Cooper.

  • Empathy and Recurring Dreams

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be, and why?

I certainly have not perfected it, however, when communicating with people, I try to listen and decipher where they’re coming from.

In a sense, I’m being somebody else for a second a minute the unit of Measure doesn’t matter.

    Recurring Dreams

We all have recurring dreams and some of us remember them better than others. One dream that haunts me is being in a war and having to defend myself. The implication is firing a gun. The dream is always scary. I don’t want to live this dream out for a day, but I should.

I assume I know what it’s like, but I have no way of living it out. So in a sense, I don’t know what I’m talking about.

    Other people’s struggles

I have a friend who’s struggling with a battle with brain cancer. I can only imagine what she’s going through. But I have no idea. I wish I could understand and say the right thing. I could be her for a day.. I probably would mess it up more.

    On The Streets

In this country, fighting a war or a catastrophic illness, there is a possibility of ending up in the street In My Back Yard.

  • Sketchy Story

    Sketchy Story

I was doodling and off the page emerged this young lady who had enough of her yacht driving recent one night fling.

It was the first one night stand in her life.

    And nothing happened.

Except the whole of the moon.

I wondered out in the world for years
while you just stayed in your room
    I saw the crescent
you saw the whole of the moon!
    The whole of the moon!

And she is mad so I sketched her.
