    Was hast du Gemacht

If aliens arrived tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’d ask them?

We are making a myopic center of the world assumption here that aliens would speak the same language that we do and I believe that would be a one in 8 trillion possibility. Eventually, we would figure something out, but I’m not sure they would stay long enough seeing how much of a mess we’ve made of this planet.

    I would ask this.

Zibble-wobble flim flam, glorious space-potato, why does your squiggly-wiggle snoot-boop the gravitational cheese-grater of our third-rock bouncy ball?”

I believe this works in German

„Zibble-Wobble-Schwindel, herrliche Weltraumkartoffel, warum stupst du mit deiner verschnörkelten Schnauze gegen die Schwerkraft-Käsereibe unseres hüpfenden Balls, dem dritten Planeten?“

    Active Listening

What’s the most underrated life skill?

There will be a quiz at the end of this trite little essay. So stick with me.

It seems like the most obvious answer in the world, but I believe one of the most underrated skills is the ability to listen. The ability to listen as a skill set or you’re not formulating an answer, but you’re actively listening to what is being said to you.

I had a friend named Michael who passed away recently and he was a special friend. He had the ability to be present in every conversation you had with him. He listened without judgment. You knew he had your attention because he stared you right in the eyes.

And there’s a fine art skill of carrying that over to relationship. Relationships are filled with nuances, and multiple motivations that are not apparent to each other.

So listen to a partner it’s best to drop the resentment and not listen to respond, but actively listen. The rest comes a little easier.

  • This Is No Dress Rehearsal

What’s a personal mantra or philosophy you live by?

    This is our life.

No dress rehearsal, this is our life” is a famous lyric from the 1996 song “Ahead by a Century” by the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, off their album Trouble at the Henhouse.

I believe this is the only life we have that we have to make the best of it. Try anything twice see as much as you can. Life is not fair, but my objective is to make it a little more fair for those in need.

The genie grants you a wish. What is it?

    Talk About Privilege

There are people who walk this earth who think the world works like this. Naturally, it simply does not .

I would ask the genie to make himself known and have him walk around with me for a day and we can solve a problem like homelessness in the United States.

    Misplaced Metaphor

I once dated this girl and her strategy for long-term growth was to hit the lottery. I don’t see anything different about her approach and the belief that there is a genie in my bottle of frozen almond sauce.
