• Book In The Car

What book are you reading right now?

My wife and I travel back-and-forth between Portland. and Seattle often.. We generally read an audio book. It is rather enjoyable, yet I miss Louise Penny. We read almost the entire series going up and down Interstate 5.

The series focuses on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec, a wise and compassionate detective who often finds himself investigating murders in the charming but secret-filled village of Three Pines. The village, which doesn’t appear on any map, is home to a cast of eccentric characters, including a boozy poet, a bistro owner, and an artist.

This week we read a book that she loved and I thought was OK.

This allowed me to turn the book off, so we could actually talk on the ride.

When I’m by myself, I have been reading the Brothers Karamazov. . I love Russian novels, which are not books to be shared in the ride up and down I five.

    This worked perfectly one night.

  • No Matter Where You Go

    No Matter Where You Go

What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

    There you are.

I could argue. My current favorite month is the month we are in.

It’s a valid argument tepid at best. I try to live for the moment and enjoy what’s right in front of me. At the end of summer is irritating.

    That’s what I call a wildfire season.

It is hot and the air is full of smoke. This year it wasn’t so bad but many years it is unbearable.

But it does make the other 10 months seem that much more splendid.

I guess there’s a reason Oktoberfest is in September. They’re both spectacular months.

  • Bamboo Harvester

If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?

I really want to meet Bamboo Harvester. We would sit down and have a deep conversation.

    • Answering the Telephone: Bamboo frequently used his mouth to pick up the receiver and dial the phone, often to call travel agents, stockbrokers, or other friends, leading to comedic misunderstandings when the person on the other end thought they were speaking to his best friend.
    • Writing Letters: He learned to hold a pencil in his mouth and “write” notes or letters, sometimes even signing his name, to further his own schemes or prove a point to his friends.
    • Playing Sports: In one memorable episode, he supposedly hit an inside-the-park home run off the real-life Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax.
    • Operating Machinery: he managed to operate various items, such as an ice cream truck, and in one episode, he even “piloted” a plane.
    • Giving Advice: Despite being a horse, Ed often provided surprisingly insightful (if self-serving) advice to Wilbur on architecture, relationships, and life, often with a humorous and irreverent tone.

I would love to sit down with Mister Ed, as he was one of the funniest characters I’ve ever seen.

    I would prefer

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

    Anywhere that has

    • Peace and Harmony: A world free from war, conflict, terrorism, and political tension, where people coexist peacefully.
    • Equality and Justice: A society without discrimination based on gender, race, religion, or sexuality, where everyone is treated with respect and has equal opportunities.
    • Abolition of Poverty and Suffering: A place where fundamental needs like food, water, and shelter are universally met, and suffering, both human and animal, is significantly reduced or eliminated.
    • Freedom and Fulfillment:An environment where individuals have the freedom to pursue their interests, enjoy life, and achieve self-actualization without interfering with others’ freedom.
